Birthplace of Charles Stewart Parnell & of sustainable forestry

Avondale House was the birthplace and home of Charles Stewart Parnell (1846 -1891) one of the greatest political leaders in Irish history and also to the lesser-known Samuel Hayes, (1743–95). Hayes was a gifted politician and amateur architect who wrote Ireland’s first full-length book on how to grow and manage trees. Avondale has recently been transformed into one of Ireland’s most spectacular visitor attractions called ‘Beyond the Trees Avondale’ which has the longest treetop walk in Ireland & the UK and brings visitors on an adventure through and above the trees to the impressive 38m Viewing Tower.
