The name Roscommon translates from ‘Ros’ meaning ‘wooded terrain’ and ‘Coman’, an early Irish saint who became the first abbot and bishop of Roscommon. The county is extremely rich in historical sites and The ancient Royal site of Rathcrogan has world class archeology yet to be fully discovered. Lough Key and Boyle Abbey are also worth a visit. Roscommon’s highest peak is Seltannasaggart / Corry Mountain standing at 428m.
