Tipperary’s gets its name from a local Gaelic tribe ‘Tiobraid Árann’ that translates to ‘The Well of Ara’. The county is steeped in history and has many fine castles and ecclesiastical sites. It was Ireland’s first county to be created in 1327 and is still known as ‘The Premier County’. Highlights include The Rock of Cashel, Cahir, The Golden Vale, Lough Derg and the Galtee Mountains where its highest point is Galtymore standing at 917m.
