A wedding venue fit for a King

Cloonacauneen Castle is a stunning 15th-century tower house situated on the outskirts of Galway City. Unusually, the majority of Cloonacaueen’s owners have been recorded since 1574, when Richard Beag Burke lived here. The castle next came into the possession of the Blake family until 1835 after which Martin Blake sold it to Mr. Fair of Ballinasloe. In 1914 the complex came into the possession of Mr. James Malley after it had become a dilapidated ruin. The Lenihan family from Eyre Square in Galway took over the castle in 1963 and set about restoring the building to its former glory. The castle and the house were re-roofed and the battlements were raised to their original height. Subsequent owners were the Hanleys, the Monaghans, and now the Heffernans who have a resident ‘Lord of the Manor’ again!
