Northern Ireland’s highest pub

The Ponderosa Pub is located on the Glenshane Pass between Derry and Belfast. It was established around c.1900 but started its life as a little farmhouse on the Derry to Belfast road. This is the highest pub in Ireland and has to be self-sufficient due to its altitude. It has its own turf bank for fuel, its own water supply from a mountain spring, and its own electricity generator. It has also been seen in numerous movies and has been mentioned in many books including ‘Harry’s Game’. A great place to stop for the views alone.
