Some of the highest sea cliffs in Europe
The Slieve League Cliffs are amongst the highest sea cliffs in Europe rising 1972 feet above the Atlantic Ocean (making them nearly 3 times higher than the famous Cliffs of Mohar in County Clare!). The Irish name for the cliffs in Irish is ‘Sliabh Liag’ meaning the Grey Mountain. There are terrific views across Donegal Bay towards the mountains of Sligo and Mayo and to the northwest is Rathlin island and Glencolmcille. A short walk will take you to the right of the amazing cliff face of Bunglas which rises over 306m above the ocean. The ruins of an ancient church sit near the summit pass as does a Napoleonic 19th-century watchtower. This is as wild and dramatic as Ireland can get.
