A tranquil site for a popular local saint

Moling is a very important saint to people in the South East of Ireland and his name is remembered in many tranquil and holy sites in Carlow, Wexford, Kildare, and Kilkenny. Moling was a monk in the seventh century who later became Bishop of Ferns. He trained under St Brendan near Glendalough and lived an austere life. He is also attributed with making an impressive metalwork shrine of the Gospels which can be seen in the National Museum of Ireland. This beautiful site in Mullinakill overlooks the River Arrigle and on-site you will see lots of hazel trees, a holy well, holy medals, candles, rosary beads, and a few small statues. There is also a large statue of St Moling and a small stone altar where a mass is held on the 20th Aug on St Moling’s feast Day.
