A modern masterpiece & a Victorian gem

The Museum of Country Life was opened in 2001 and is the only national museum outside of Dublin. It represents traditional life in Ireland throughout the 19th & 20th centuries with interesting artifacts dealing with all aspects of domestic including agriculture, fishing, clothing, textiles, and furniture. The stunning parkland was once owned by the Fitzgerald family in the 17th century and in the 19th century, it became Turlough Park. On the grounds, you can also see one of Ireland’s finest Victorian Houses. This house was built in 1867 to the designs of the architect responsible for the National Museum of Ireland on Kildare Street: Thomas Newenham Deane. Beside Turlough House is an ultra-modern award-winning display building created by the architectural branch of the Office of Public Works.
