Toot and come in!

The Kinnitty Pyramid was built by Lt. Col Richard Wellesley Bernard in 1834 as a family tomb. It took 4 years to complete and is the only one of its kind in Ireland. The Bernards were a wealthy landowning family who lived in the nearby Kinnitty Castle. Richard was an architect and engineer who completed military service in Egypt and after seeing the huge pyramids decided to build his own. The 4-sided pyramid is 30 feet tall and is an exact replica of the Pyramid of Cheops. Steps lead down 8 feet below ground level into the pyramid where the coffins of the Bernard family were placed. Records indicate 6 members of the Bernard family have been rested here.
